SHANGHAI Disney Resort has received over 10 million visitors since its grand opening in June 2016, the resort announced today.
The milestone was reached in just under 11 months after the resort’s opening, making it the most popular theme park opened in China.
It is the result of the "incredible popularity" of Shanghai Disneyland with guests from across China and around the world, the management of the resort said.
The resort today also announced to start a month-long first anniversary celebration , leading up to a major celebration in the resort’s theme park on June 16 with themed décor, limited merchandise and special dining experiences.
Starting May 24, guests are also encouraged to share their special memories in their first-year visits to the resort on the resort’s official social media account. Disney fans who submit their memories will have the chance to be selected and invited as special guests at the first anniversary event on June 16.
“The resort’s rapidly growing popularity and extremely high levels of guest satisfaction add to our confidence in the growing demand for our attractions and entertainment," said Philippe Gas, general manager of the resort. It has announced its first expansion with the addition of Toy Story Land , set to open in 2018.
The resort has hired over 10,000 employees, known as the Cast Members, from Shanghai and across China, and generated thousands of additional indirect jobs for tourism and cultural industry professionals , the resort said today.
The resort’s attractions and live entertainment have also been recognized by top global and China awards from Themed Entertainment Association (TEA), International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA), Visual Effects Society (VES) to China Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (CAAPA).

NAIROBI, Dec. 2 (Xinhua) -- The Kenyan government said it has launched investigations into two separate terror incidents in Wajir and Mandera counties in northern Kenya in which 37 people were killed and 13 others injured.
Presidential spokesman Manoah Esipisu said heavily armed bandits raided a quarry workers' camp at Koromey area in the outskirts of Mandera town at around 2 a.m., killing 36 people.
""Survivors of the attack indicate that the bandits numbered some 20 people ,"" Esipisu said in a statement issue in Nairobi.
In another incident at 8.30 p.m. on Monday evening, three masked gunmen stormed Ngamia Club in Wajir Town and started shooting, but were repulsed by the security forces who engaged them in the shootout.
Unfortunately, Esipisu said, one Kenyan was killed and 13 others injured in the incident. The injured are being attended to.
""The government sends messages of condolences to the families of those who have lost their dear ones and stands by them during this difficult time. Investigations are underway in regard to both incidents ,"" he said.
The latest incidents come barely two weeks after Al-Shabaab ambushed a Nairobi-bound bus and killed 28 non-Muslim passengers. Police are yet to make any arrest in the latest incidents.
Several civilians including policemen have been killed especially in the northern counties of Garissa, Wajir and Mandera which are near the border with Somalia since Kenya sent peacekeeping troops to Somalia in 2011.
Subsequent efforts to fight terrorism and neutralise Al-Shabaab threats have seen anti-terrorism police unit arrest dozens of Kenyans on suspicion of being members of the Somali terror group.
Police have said most of those who are being used to carry out terror attacks in Kenya are its own youth, who have been enlisted in the Somali-based extremist group. Most of them are from upcountry Kenya and are recent converts to Islam.

International leading hotel company InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) held an official opening of the HUALUXE Zhangjiakou on April 26 in Zhangjiakou , North China's Hebei Province, one of the host cities for the event, IHG CEO Richard Solomons told the Global Times on Tuesday.
Sitting at the center of Zhangjiakou, the HUALUXE Zhangjiakou becomes IHG's 300th property in its greater China region and also the first upscale international hotel in the city, according to a statement the company sent to the Global Times on Tuesday.
The hotel is 8 kilometers from the Zhangjiakou railway station and 12 kilometers from the airport , said the statement.
"Global events like the 2022 Winter Olympics Games herald a great opportunity for the development of Zhangjiakou, especially in the tourism and hospitality industry," Solomons said.
Kenneth Macpherson, CEO of IHG greater China region, told the Global Times on Tuesday that the city also boasts of natural scenery that attracts Beijing residents to visit during weekends and holidays.
To better accommodate the sports event , a high-speed railway connecting the city with Beijing is under construction. "I'm told that it will take about 43 minutes to travel from Beijing to Zhangjikou, making the city a more attractive destination for tourism," Macpherson added.
