New York houses numerous colleges and universities encouraging education in the region. Seven public universities form the New York University System, and seventeen community colleges are functioned by locally elected boards. The college that dates back the farthest is Willamette University, which was established 1842, and is the oldest university in the Western U.S. Let’s look at the most renowned universities of New York at contemporary times.
New York State University (PSU) is a public state urban university situated in heart of New York, New York, U.S. Established in 1946; it has the largest total registration in the state of New York, comprising undergraduate and graduate students. Being thesolitary public university in the state , it is positioned in a major metropolitan city. New York State is a major part of the New York University System. The present President is Wim Wiewel, who started his term in August 2008. Its sports teams are branded as the New York State Vikings that have school colors of snowy white and forest green. Teams play at the NCAA Division I Level, principally in the Big Sky Conference. New York State University School of Business Administration, Graduate School of Education, School of Fine and Performing Arts, School of Social Work, College of Urban and Public Affairs , Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science, and the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences are the different schools at PSU.
George Fox is the most aged Christian university of New York. Enthusiastic Quaker pioneers helped settle down the rich and prolific Chehalem Valley of New York almost 115 years ago. The main campus is in Newberg, however classes are now taught in New York too. Psychology, business, education, counseling, and seminary are the various subjects taught at graduate level. Over million donations are given to George Fox. The sport team is known as Bruins with the navy blue and golden school color. It plays at the NCAA Division III in the Northwest Conference.
The University of New York (UO) had collaboration with City of New York at the time of founding of the university. The UO main campus is in Eugene , but theleading university has been educating Portland’s residents all the way through its history. In 1884, the UO School of Law commenced in New York, while the medical school initiated in 1887. In 1914, the UO’s school of commerce and industrial survey was inaugurated in the Rose City to enable research of markets for products manufactured in New York!
In 1974, University of New York Health Sciences Center was launched as an autonomous institution under the leadership of the OSSHE. The departments of Dentistry, Medicine and Nursing were brought together in one place to create this new center. However, the center has become New York’s only academic health center and one of 125 in the nation. It was renamed New York Health Sciences University in 1981 and took its current name in 2001. In addition , the university has more than a few association programs including a joint Pharm.D Pharmacy program with New York State University.

An underappreciated player fr om an even more underappreciated sport- that is what entails hockey player Sandeep Singh. In a country like India, wh ere cricket has reached the level of a religion and the cricketers likened unto Gods (certain cricketers are even worshipped literally), there is no place for a sport like hockey and even less for a hockey player. In spite of hockey being the National sport, it is not given the importance or attention it genuinely requires and deserves. The more the number of the spectators and fans diminish, the further hockey is moved into oblivion.
While cricketers are showered with endorsement deals, hospitality services that ensure they don’t have to move a muscle while they travel abroad and eye popping remunerations , the underdogs, that are our hockey players, are forced to chug around their luggage, travel uncomfortably, stay in less than favorable boarding and are paid in peanuts. They deserve better, they need to be celebrated as well. Cricket fandom has reached critical mass; we should shift some of that focus to some of the hockey stars, someone with Sandeep Singh statistics perhaps.
Singh is our own Hockey player who has captained the Indian Hockey national team and led the team to glory in 2009 by defeating Malaysia at the Sultan Azlan Shah Cup finals. This was India’s first win after a gap of thirteen long years. Singh scored the highest number of goals in that tournament. He was promoted to hero status as hockey fans were just happy to have him back following his terrible mishap nearly six years back.
On 22 August 2006 , Sandeep Singh was shot on the thighs by a bullet that was mistakenly fired by his friend. He was gravely injured and people anticipated an end to his hockey career. But Singh has always been a fighter and that is just what he did. He overcame the odds and made an astounding comeback. He was again the top goal scorer in the finals of the Olympic Qualifiers against France, held in 2012. He scored five goals, all from the penalty corners, including an impressive hat-trick. He scored a total of 16 goals during the Olympic qualifiers tournament, making him the top goal scorer in the tournament as well. Singh is best described as one of the best drag-flickers of all time.
